Hokshila, a 125# Timberwolf, is one of my new wolf buddies, and is the primary ambassador for the Wanagi Wolf Fund and Rescue organization. He, along with his pal Bindi, a Mexican Gray/Coyote/Husky mix, and their pack leader, Stephanie Kaylan, were at the Albuquerque Open Space Visitor Center today. A real gentle soul, Hokshila spent most of his time saying hi to the kids in the crowd, nuzzling and licking their faces.
Hokshila perked right up when a near-by dog caught his scent and started "talking".
Stephanie, by the way, is 5'7" tall. She currently has about 10 canines at her center, four full wolves and the rest wolf-dogs that she has rescued from almost certain death from across the country. Domesticated wolves and wolf-dogs are considered as "exotics" by animal shelters, and put to death quickly unless taken in by a center such as hers. She supports the center through donations and by selling various wolf-related items. More information about the Wanagi Wolf Fund and its mission can be found at the site linked below.
