A full version of Lightroom runs $299. A full version of Photoshop Elements is $99. While Lightroom has many attractive features, I suspect you might get by nicely with just Photoshop Elements, and it will probably seem more familiar, thus easier to use.
Note that you can download a trial version of either or both first, to get a sense of the features.
