I'd never have thought of any of that. Never crossed my mind that it was a homemade tool. But now some other photographers have suggested it's a tool someone made for chipping slag from welded joints. So who knows? Thanks for commenting.

: The pattern in the middle looks like threads on a bolt, the business end appears like it was ground down to form the round tip. The wedge at the other end may have been forged from the end of the bolt, or welded on. The handle looks like a screwdriver to me. I would guess the small, round contact surface was for tapping out bolts, or something like that.

: If one has a forge (or, knows a blacksmith), tools are made to spec from whatever else is handy.
