There are lots of turtles and frogs living in the ponds and bogs there, but not sure what they do during winter. Maybe bury themselves in bottom muck, I don't know.

Parts of this little bog put me in mind of Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles, except over there the English and Scots mostly call them "mires" or "moors"...but I'm not sure theirs are as wet as some of our wetland bogs.

I wouldn't mind being in the bog after dark, just to see what sort of critters show up. I'd thought of putting a couple of trail cameras down there, but since it's county property, I guess I better not.

If I can get up early enough one of these 15-degree mornings, I'd like to see if any ice forms on the water.

The role that bogs have played in culture, literature, and legends is interesting. Your bog looks like it might be particularly scary to those with a bog-monster mindset.
