"There seem to be dolmen almost everywhere in the world except North America (and maybe South America?). It struck me that although they may have lost their original religious significance, that people come from all over the world to see them these days."
Early humans in North America seem to have taken the "circular mound" route, although there are a few early stone structures here. There might have been other stone structures here that may have been destroyed by earthquakes, though, and are no longer recognizable as human constructions.
The fascination with them does seem to be universal, though.
