Although the highest point in the caldera, Redondo Peak is over 11,000 feet in elevation, the floor of the caldera is about 8,000 feet. That's about 3,000 feet higher than Albuquerque. That, and the surrounding Jemez Mountains, make for rather unpredictable weather.
Valle Caldera is one of the smaller super volcanoes, being only about 13 miles across. But, I'm still glad I wasn't there when it erupted about 1.2 million years ago. ;-)
